Learn the basics of embroidery in this 6-week class. Students will learn the 6 basic stitch types (straight, chain, knotted, couching/applique, cross stitch, and beading); embroider on a variety of surfaces with different thread types and materials; create finished pieces that utilize a variety of interacting techniques; and understand their embroidered work within its historical and cultural context.

Location: 330 High St., Holyoke, MA

Required Materials:

  • Embroidery needles of different sizes (1 pack)
  • Beading needle(s)
  • Sharp embroidery/thread scissors
  • 8”-12” wooden or plastic embroidery hoops (2-3)
  • Embroidery floss, DMC brand is recommended (15-20 skeins of different colors)
  • Plain white cotton broadcloth or plain muslin (at least 2-3 yards)
  • Pencils and sketchbook/notebook

About the Instructor 
Yoni Glogower is a fiber artist and naturalist based in Holyoke. He has taught embroidery at the Hill Institute and courses in native plant dyes and forest ecology at Native Plant Trust. He is excited to bring his needlepoint passions to Paper City Fabrics!
